TIME TRIALLING
WHAT IS TIME TRIALLING?
Time trialling is cycling against the clock to secure the fastest time. It can be a single track cycling event, or an individual or team time trial on the road. Participants are sent out in intervals, as opposed to a mass start.
You will be given a number, told your start time and then all you have to do is to ride around the route in the shortest time you can.

What do I need?
- A bike, any bike will do, it helps if you've got 16+ gears and index changing but other than that, the same bike you ride everyday is fine. As you get better, you might want to adapt your bike to make it faster and lighter by changing into carbon and/or more aerodynamic part shapes i.e. wheels, tri-bars, pointy helmet ect.
- A crash helmet, just like the one you always wear
- A race jersey and skin shorts - some prefer a skinsuit
- A little determination
The time trial requires focus and concentration and an ability to pace a ride to a maximum effort to the finish. There is nowhere to hide and there must be no pacing (following other riders).
Against the wind or up the climb, it is the best effort of each individual that brings the rewards and if not for a place on the podium then at least for the personal satisfaction of a good ride. For further information contact the club Time Trial secretary. |
