Paul Townsley made the long trip to Cheshire for the LVRC National veterans’ road race championships held over a 54 mile course. It was his first exposure at this level and he was delighted to win a silver medal for second place in his over 70 age category. He is in a rich vein of form having been promoted to British Cycling cat 3 status only last week.

Preston Park : Friday 12 July 2019
Not a bad race last night at PP. A big field and 30 mph for the first 30 minutes. I tried to get away a few times but all moves were getting chased down for the full race. In for about 15th, just couldn’t move up on the last 3 laps. It's mid season and everyone is on form.

Race report from Paul:
Finished 5th last evening at Dunsfold. Two of us made a break with 6 laps to go and then one more got across. The three of us worked as a good trio unit with a further 2 other riders joining the party with just 2 laps to go to the finish. I now need only one point to get my Cat 3 so fingers crossed. |

A gruelling slog, unable to make a break stick after the ‘class’ had bolted. |
