Dom - Chairman
Dom is an experienced cyclist. With a history of road racing, he earned his Cat 2 race license in his earlier years and competed extensively with the 40+ Masters racing.
In 2024 & 2025, Dominic qualified for the Gravel World Championships in the 50+ age group. He’s also completed several Audax events, including a 600km ride in 34 hours, and has ridden in iconic sportives like Gent-Wevelgem, Liège-Bastogne-Liège, and the Tour of Flanders. His favourite place to ride is around Oudenaarde, Belgium, where he enjoys the challenging cobbled climbs and a refreshing Kwaremont beer. While passionate about cycling, Dominic still gets competitive on group rides, though he’s not too fond of being dropped by the older members! |
Ian T - Club Secretary
"A late starter to cycling but that was 20 years ago and I've now just about mastered the art of not falling off. Unfortunately Strava keeps reminding me that I am getting slower with each passing year but I have done most of the iconic climbs across France, Spain and Belgium as well as completing such events as Chase the Sun and the Dunwich Dynamo in the UK. Likes to get off road too on a Mountain Bike and looks forward to the day that he is old enough to buy an electric one."
Phil - General CommitteePhil joined Worthing Excelsior in 2010. To his surprise he won the Time Trial Points Competition in 2011. More recently he has won both the Club Runs Points Competition and Tourist Trial Competition on several occasions, neither of which require any particular cycling ability.
Phil ran the Evening 10 time trial and hill climb series between 2015 and 2017 and was responsible for sixty events. In 2023 he was responsible for the design and introduction of the club's new Castelli cycling kit with an aim of encouraging more members to wear club kit when participating club activities. |
Ian Cheesy - Events & CompetitionsIan is an experienced cyclist and mainly competes in time trials, but has more recently also dabbled in formal running races, CX races and Triathlon's. Competing in both Club and Open events he also coordinates the club events throughout the season and maintains the competitions and awards in time for the Annual Dinner and Awards, usually held in November.
Ian also arranges and books the Annual dinner each year and has done for many years since taking over this role from Dom Maxwell and is usually the MC for the evening and has been known to get his guitar out from time to time. |
Steve - General Committee"I am a late starter to cycling (2019), first getting involved via an E-mountain bike to help me keep up with some mountain-biking friends. This proved a fantastic gateway to improving my fitness, such that I soon found myself using leg-power alone, across a range of disciplines, from gravel riding to time-trialing, competing in sportives and meandering the wilds bike-packing, both home and abroad. Cycling has opened up a whole new world of enjoyment and friendships."

Dave - Club Runs & Touring
"I’m an extremely late newcomer to cycling! In early 2020, like most of the country, I was 'furloughed' from working. I realised that I needed to lose some weight and improve my overall fitness and I started road cycling.
I bought my first decent bike a year or so later (Ribble SL Endurance) and progressed to the world of electronic shifting and tubeless tyres, about a year ago, and bought my current Giant TCR. My passion is for the 'Monument' rides and as well completing Paris-Roubaix four times, the Tour of Flanders Challenge twice, and the Amstel Gold Challenge three times, I have entered numerous Sportives across the south, usually via UKCE (UK Cycling Events). I completed the Etap Loch Ness back in 2023, and took part in the Tro Bro Leon in North West France a couple of years ago (known as the Paris Roubaix of the West). I organised a couple of trips for WECC Members from Worthing to Paris on the Avenue Vert over the past couple of years and hope to do this again next year - now that I'm fully retired! Since joining WECC back in mid 2020 I have usually finished in the top 3 of the Sunday Club Ride League Table, and have picked-up the Audax Trophy three times." |
Ali - Web, Socials & Comms
"I'd regularly commute to work in London on a single speed but things really kicked off in 2018 after signing up to Ride London, then a 100 mile sportive taking on London and the Surrey Hills. I bought my first road bike with gears and reluctantly my first pair of bib shorts - it didn't take long until I was spending more money on lycra than regular clothes.
I moved to worthing in 2020 and joined WECC to meet local riders. I'm regularly taking part in local crit races as well as gravel racing which has taken me further afield. My proudest moment is managing to qualify for the 2025 UCI Gravel World Championships in my age group." |
Mick - Membership Secretary
"As both my parents were cycling club members I have followed in their tyre tracks.
I have been a club member for the last 35 years competing in Time Trials (but did not like them). So I switched to long distance cycling and joined Audax UK (who regulate them) and have ridden 100k, 200k, 300k and 400k rides. Culminating in a Right Round the year award which is riding an Audax event of at least 200k each month for 12 consecutive months. I organised a 100k Audax event on behalf of the club for 13 years.
I have also been a club run leader although I don't ride that often with the club due to 'father time'. For the last 20 years I have been a principal time keeper at Time Trials from club level to and including National level."

Nathan - Welfare & Safeguarding Officer
"After being encouraged to join the club in 2005, I soon got stuck into time trial. Never letting the fact I was never very fast get in the way. Time trialling in every distance from ten miles up to a 12 hour. individual, 2ups, and even a team time trial, with a real love for the sporting courses. The GS stella weekend being a highlight. Although never quick enough to win anything on my own, I was often there to ensure WECC were able to enter a team.
Due to children and work commitment, TT and long cycled rides were scaled back, and the love of running was discovered, with the aim of completing 100 marathons. But I still commute daily to work and still involved in the evening ten, but in a helping capacity. But, I'm sure my long awaited comeback is just around the corner." |
