Audax

What is Audax?

Audax is a cycling discipline in which participants attemt to cycle long distances within a pre-defined time limit, passing through predetermined 'controls' (Checkpoints).

The route is pre-planned and each rider receive a Brevet Card and a Route Sheet indicating the route and the location of the check points where they either get a stamp or other proof of time and place on the brevet card.

In the UK participants are not abliged to ride together in a group but are free to cycle at their own pace, stop or sleep wherever they want and form groups randomly, provided they stay within the time limit.

Audax is a non-compeditive discipline; Succes in an event is measured by its completion

What do I need?

  • A bike, any bike will do, it helps if you've got 16+ gears and index changing but other than that, the same bike you ride everyday is fine.
  • A crash helmet, just like the one you always wear
  • Bottles and bottle cages. One is fine for the shortest rides of 50-100 km but for longer rides it is an advantage to carry two bottles.
  • A little determination
