President |
I joined Worthing Excelsior Cycling Club in 1963 and have enjoyed many activities that the club has to offer. During that time I have ridden in Time trials, Road Races, Track Events, Audax Events, and Reliability Trials all with varying degrees of success. Additionally, I have been able to take part in cycletouring both in the UK and Europe. Club Runs have always been a part of my enjoyment of being a Club member. During my membership I have served on the Committee in many posts, Time Trial Secretary, Road Race Secretary, Runs and Touring Secretary and now President. Non-committee positions have been Timekeeper and Handicapper. During my period of Presidency, the club Committee nominated me to take up the position of President of both the Sussex Cyclist's Association and the East Sussex Cycling Association for one year which I duly accepted and was proud to represent the Club at the Association functions. The Club has always been active in promoting Open events for the benefit of other cyclists and I have been able to promote on behalf of the Club, Open Time Trials, Road Races, Audax Events and Reliability Trials. Although my racing activities are now past, riding my bike, especially with other members of the Worthing Excelsior Cycling Club give me great pleasure and the exercise I need. |

Chairman |
I joined the club in 1981 at the age of 13 and started racing straight away in time trials and then turned my hand at road racing. In 1985 I rode the National Junior 25 miles championship held in York. Nowadays a still ride time trials mainly between 10 and 50 miles, but I have also ridden a couple of 100 mile events over the last few years. I enjoy the social side of riding which now includes Audax and Sportive events. I served on the committee in several roles include general committee member and Treasurer before becoming Chairman. |

Secretary |
Adrian has been riding his bike for many years but gave up racing because he realised he wasn't any good at it! He now just enjoys the simple pleasures of just riding his bike believing that any exercise that involves sitting down is good. |

Treasurer |
I joined Worthing Excelsior in 1992 and have served on the committee as Treasurer since 1995. My only racing claim to fame was winning the club's Clapshaw Handicap time trial trophy in 1995! I currently enjoy getting out on my bike to relax, get some exercise, keep healthy and in particular enjoy the countryside. |

Club Events Secretary |
In 1972 living in Portslade and travelling to work in Worthing I started serious cycling just at the time of the petrol shortage. My interest continued and when the children did not take so much of my time I joined the WECC in 1988. I started racing Time Trials and have continued riding a full programme of Club and Open events. I joined the Clubs committee and have served as Events Secretary since 1992. |

Magazine Editor |
My cycling started in 1951 as a founder member of the East Grinstead. C. C. I joined Worthing Excelsior in 1960 and have ridden time trials in their colours every year until 2011. I have ridden every distance from 10 miles to 24 hours. If you include the events while a member of East Grinstead I have finished over 1300 events, with an occasional degree of success at club and County level. With an introduction to touring by my Dad from the age of 12, that has always been a great part of my cycling enjoyment and has continued with reliability trials, Audax events, and the humble club run which I'm glad is still such a popular part of Worthing Excelsior's activities. I have served on the Club's General Committee for nearly 50 years and in various positions. I am currently Social Secretary and Press Secretary and apart from two short breaks have edited the Club Magazine "The Worthing Wheel" since I started it in 1968. The hills are steeper and speeds are now much slower but I still enjoy riding the bike and that must always be the object. |

I've had a bike for as long as I can remember - well, if I'm honest my first machine was a trike (with a boot) - and I never had stabilisers! That said I've been cycling seriously for almost 20 years: starting with regular mountain bike jaunts on the South Downs and then moving through audax (long distance) events through to sportives and time trials. I still go mountain biking and do the occasional time trial but I guess I'd describe myself as a long-distance cyclist. However, my favourite activity on a bike is tackling the long climbs in the Pyrenees or the Alps - with Mont Ventoux being the best climb in the world. |

Club Welfare Officer |
Hi, I joined the club about 8 years ago after moving down from Surrey. I am the club welfare officer and as such sit on the committee with responsibility for all "Safeguarding" and welfare issues. I have ridden all my life and raced bikes since I was 12. I retired from racing a few years ago but as middle age kicked in I have returned to competition in the form of triathlon. I completed Ironman Switzerland in 2010 and have focused on long distance triathlon since. I still ride the odd time trial but just as training! Outside of competition I really enjoy riding sportives with all my mates in the club as well as organising the annual club weekend away, now in its third year, and helping promote and organise the club's own sportive 'The Devil in the Downs'. |
